How to Enable Parallax Effect in Scrolling & Disable it on Squarespace 2026
By Impran M N
Parallax scrolling makes background images move slower than the content in front of them, giving your site a sense of depth and a more modern feel. This guide shows how to turn the effect on for a section, and how to disable it again if it's not the look you want.
01Log in to Squarespace
Sign in at squarespace.com, using Continue with Google if your account is linked, and open the site you want to edit.
02Open the section settings
Click Edit on the page, hover over the section with the background image, and click Edit Section.
03Find the Image Effect option
In the section settings, click on Background, then look for the Image Effect option.
04Select Parallax
Choose Parallax from the image effect options to activate the scrolling effect on that section's background.
05Disable it if needed
To turn the effect off later, revisit the same settings and select None or another image effect, then click Save.

How do I turn off parallax scrolling?
Go back to the same Background settings and choose None or a different image effect, then save your changes.
Do I need to save after changing the image effect?
Yes, changes won't apply until you click Save after selecting or removing the parallax effect.
