A domain bought through Namecheap and a Google Workspace account don't know about each other until you build the link yourself, entirely through DNS records. Get one wrong and mail either bounces or never arrives, so it pays to do it carefully once instead of chasing a delivery problem afterward.
This guide covers the whole path: starting in the Namecheap dashboard, moving into the Google Admin console to claim the domain, and finishing with the DNS changes that make mail and a website resolve under your own name. No developer is required. Google has also simplified the mail side since 2023 — most guides online still describe the old five-record setup, which is no longer what new accounts need.

01Confirm your domain in the Namecheap dashboard
Log in to Namecheap and land on the dashboard, where "Recently Active in Your Account" lists the domains tied to your login with their expiration date and a Manage button. Before touching Google Workspace, confirm you're looking at the exact domain you intend to connect.
It's easy to have several similar-looking domains registered and edit the wrong one's DNS. Click Manage next to the correct domain to open its settings. That's also where the Advanced DNS tab lives, the one you'll come back to a few steps from now to add records.
02Start Workspace setup and get the verification record
In a separate tab, sign up for or sign in to Google Workspace and enter the same Namecheap domain when it asks which domain to use. Google treats this as the anchor for the whole account, so double-check the spelling matches exactly what's registered in Namecheap.
Google won't activate anything on a domain it can't confirm you own, so it issues a verification record, normally a TXT record with a value starting `google-site-verification=`. Copy that value exactly. A missing character means the check fails and you're back at this screen.
03Add the TXT and MX records in Namecheap's Advanced DNS
Back in Namecheap, open Advanced DNS for the domain and use Add New Record to create a TXT record with the exact value Google gave you, Host set to @. Save, return to Google Workspace, and click Verify.
For mail, Namecheap's own support notes that the "Gmail" preset under Advanced DNS's Mail Settings dropdown doesn't reliably produce working records, so add the MX record manually with Custom MX instead. Accounts created from April 2023 onward need only one MX record: Host @, Value smtp.google.com, Priority 1, TTL Automatic.
That replaces the older five-record setup (ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM and friends) that most other guides still describe; those legacy values still work if a domain already has them, but a new setup doesn't need them. Delete any other MX records pointing at a previous mail provider, or Google's mail will compete with a dead server. Leave A, CNAME, or other non-mail records alone.
04Manage the domain from the Google Admin console
Once verified, the domain appears in the Google Admin console under Account settings, on the Manage domains screen, alongside any domain aliases and a separate Allowlisted domains panel for external domains given limited access. This is the control center going forward: it's where you'd add a second domain alias later, or confirm the primary domain is still marked correctly.
05Point the website and confirm both halves work
If the actual website is built in Google Sites or another Google-connected tool, add its CNAME or A record in the same Advanced DNS screen, using whatever value that product specifies. Once both sets of records are live, test them separately: send a real email to an address on the domain and confirm it lands in Gmail, then load the domain in a browser to confirm the site resolves.
Give DNS a few hours if either check fails right away. Namecheap's documentation puts full propagation at up to 72 hours in rare cases, though most changes are visible well before that; a fresh "not working" report is usually just propagation still catching up, not a wrong record.
When it doesn't work
Verification in Google Workspace keeps failing
Why: The TXT record value was copied with extra spaces or truncated, or it was added under a Host other than @ (for example, a subdomain field left over from a previous record).
Fix: Re-copy the verification value directly from Google Workspace, confirm Host is set to @, save, wait roughly 30 minutes, then click Verify again. Don't re-add the record repeatedly; it doesn't speed anything up.
Mail still doesn't arrive after the MX record is added
Why: A leftover MX record from a previous mail host is still active alongside Google's, so mail servers don't agree on where to deliver.
Fix: Open Advanced DNS and delete every other MX record for the domain, keeping only Host @, Value smtp.google.com, Priority 1.
The records added through Namecheap's "Gmail" mail preset don't work
Why: Namecheap's own support documentation states this preset template is unreliable.
Fix: Remove whatever it created and add the MX record manually using the Custom MX option instead.

Do I need to transfer my domain from Namecheap to Google?
No. The domain stays registered with Namecheap; you're only pointing specific DNS records at Google Workspace.
