Sometimes two Jira tickets need to reference each other without one being a subtask or child of the other. This guide covers how to add that kind of link and choose the right relationship type.
01Open the ticket you want to link from
Go to the issue's detail view where the link option is available.
02Click the link issue option
Find the link icon or menu item used to connect this ticket to another one.
03Pick the appropriate link type
Choose a relationship such as 'blocks', 'is blocked by', 'duplicates', or 'relates to' depending on how the tickets connect.
04Search for the target ticket
Type the ticket's key or summary to find it, then select it to complete the link.
05Confirm the link appears on both tickets
Check that the link shows up correctly, with the appropriate inverse relationship, on the other ticket as well.
