How to Export Jira Projects to Microsoft Excel

By Impran M N

Not everyone who needs project data has a Jira license, and Excel remains the easiest way to share that information broadly. This guide covers exporting a full project's worth of issues into Microsoft Excel.

01Search for all issues in the project

Use a project-based filter in Jira's issue search to pull together every issue belonging to that project.

02Refine the fields you need

Adjust the columns shown in the search results to match what should appear in the final Excel file.

03Open the export menu

From the search results screen, find the export option near the top of the issue list.

04Choose the Excel format

Select Excel (or CSV) as the export type instead of other formats like Word or PDF.

05Download and share the file

Save the exported file and share it with stakeholders who need the data outside of Jira.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Can I export a project's data on a recurring basis?

Native exports are manual each time, though the Jira REST API can be used to automate recurring exports if needed.

Will the export include attachments and comments?

Standard issue exports to Excel typically include field data only, not attachments, and comments may require a separate export method.

Is there a size limit on how many issues I can export?

Very large projects may hit export limits, requiring the data to be pulled in smaller batches.

Do I need special permissions to export a whole project?

You generally just need view access to the project's issues, though visibility can be restricted by project permissions.
