An Instagram post on your website shows visitors the business behind the page is active. GoHighLevel has no dedicated Instagram widget, but its site builder has a Custom Code element that takes any HTML snippet, and Instagram hands out exactly that kind of snippet for public posts.
The paste itself is quick. Two things confuse people afterwards.
The builder never shows the post, only a grey "Custom HTML/Javascript" box. And on the live page the post can show up as a plain link if the script that styles it gets delayed. This guide covers the click path and both of those.
Before you start
- A public Instagram account whose owner hasn't turned off embedding (private accounts can't be embedded)
- Access to the GoHighLevel website or funnel page you want to edit
01Copy the embed code in a browser, not the app
Instagram doesn't give out embed code in its mobile app. Open instagram.com on a computer (or in a phone's browser), find the post, click the three-dot menu above it and choose Embed.
The dialog shows the code, which starts with a blockquote tag carrying the post's link. Tick Include caption if you want the caption to come along, then click Copy embed code.
The button changes to "Embed code copied". Posts, reels and profiles can all be embedded this way, as long as the account is public.
02Add a row and a Custom Code element
Open the page in the GoHighLevel site builder and click the plus icon at the top left to open Quick Add. Drop in a row first; a 1 Column row suits a single post, because an embedded post has a limited width and looks lost in a full-width section.
Then add the Custom Code element into that row. It's further down the Quick Add list, and typing code into the search box finds it faster.
03Paste the snippet through Open Code Editor
Click the new element. Its settings open on the right with General and Styles tabs.
Under General, click Open Code Editor, paste the Instagram code, and save. Paste the whole snippet exactly as copied.
It is a blockquote followed by a separate script tag that loads Instagram's embed script, and the script is what turns the plain blockquote into the styled post card. The code box in Instagram's dialog scrolls sideways, so use the copy button instead of selecting the text by hand, which is an easy way to lose the script tag at the end.
04Save, then check it in preview
In the builder, the element stays a box labelled Custom HTML/Javascript. That's normal.
The builder doesn't run custom scripts, so the post never appears there. Save the page and open the preview (the eye icon at the top right) to see the real embed. HighLevel runs custom code in preview only after the page finishes loading, so give it a moment.
05Publish and check the live page
Click Publish, then load the live URL. Confirm the post renders as a card with its image, not as a bare "View this post on Instagram" link, and that clicking it opens the post on Instagram.
Each snippet embeds one post. For more, repeat the process with one Custom Code element per post, in a two- or three-column row, and check the mobile view in the builder so the columns stack cleanly. Put them near content they back up (a gallery, testimonials, or just above the footer) and keep them out of the hero, where they'd compete with your main call to action.
When it doesn't work
The builder shows a grey "Custom HTML/Javascript" box instead of the post
Why: Expected behaviour. Custom code runs in preview and on the published page, not inside the editor.
Fix: Save and open the preview, or check the live page after publishing.
The live page shows a plain link or text block, not the styled post
Why: Instagram's embed script didn't run. Either the script tag at the end of the snippet was lost when copying, or the page's Optimize JavaScript setting delayed it. HighLevel notes that setting holds back non-essential scripts until a visitor interacts.
Fix: Re-copy the code with Instagram's copy button and paste all of it. If it still doesn't render on load, turn off Optimize JavaScript for that page, as HighLevel recommends when custom code must run on page load.
A post that used to show has disappeared
Why: The account went private, the owner turned off embedding, or the post was deleted. Instagram notes a removed embed can take a while to vanish from other sites.
Fix: Pick a current public post and paste its fresh embed code into the same Custom Code element.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a business Instagram account to embed a post?
No. Instagram lets you embed posts, reels and profiles from any public account, provided the owner hasn't switched embedding off. Private accounts can't be embedded.
Can I get the embed code from the Instagram app?
No. Instagram only offers embed code in a browser, on a computer or on a phone.
Will this show my latest posts automatically?
No. Each embed code is tied to one post. A feed that updates by itself needs a third-party widget, which you'd paste into the same Custom Code element.
Why can't I see the post in the GoHighLevel editor?
The editor shows custom code as a placeholder box and doesn't run it. Use preview or the published page to see the embed.
