In Shopify, go to Settings then Domains to see every domain connected to your store. A fresh connection attempt shows your custom domain — pmnonline.shop in this example — sitting alongside the two default myshopify.com addresses that come with every store. The custom domain's status column tells you where things stand: "Checking DNS" means Shopify is still waiting on the records you're about to set, while "Connected" means a given address is already working.

Click into the domain to see the specific problem and fix. Shopify flags "Invalid DNS" when your A record doesn't point to its servers yet, and it spells out exactly what to change — in this case, an A record with name @ needs its value updated from one Shopify IP to another, alongside a button to log into Hostinger directly from that panel. Copy this exact value; it's the number you'll be typing into Hostinger next, and using an outdated or mistyped IP is the most common reason this step fails.

In hPanel, go to Domains and select the domain you're connecting, then open the DNS / Nameservers section. This page has its own tabs for DNS records, child nameservers, redirects, and DNSSEC — you want DNS records specifically, not the nameservers view, since you're editing individual records rather than switching your domain to a different nameserver provider entirely.

Find the existing A record with name @ and edit its value to match the exact IP address Shopify showed you in the previous step. Leave the record type and name field alone — only the value changes. If there's an old A record pointing somewhere else entirely (a previous host, a parking page), remove it so there's no conflicting record telling browsers two different places to look.

Alongside the A record, add a CNAME record with the host set to www that points to shops.myshopify.com, so that both the bare domain and the www version resolve to your store. This is what makes a link to www.yourdomain.com behave the same as the root domain instead of returning an error.

DNS changes don't apply instantly — Hostinger's own DNS page notes it can take anywhere from 15 minutes to 24 hours for a domain to come online after a change. Head back to Shopify's Domains page periodically and refresh; once the records are picked up, the status moves from "Checking DNS" to "Connected," and Shopify will automatically start provisioning an SSL certificate. If SSL sits at pending for more than a few hours after DNS shows connected, that's usually still just propagation catching up rather than a real error.
