A dedicated phone number in GoHighLevel gives a business its own line for calls and texts, kept separate from anyone's personal cell. Buying one takes a few clicks.
Getting it to send texts to US customers takes longer, and that second part is what most quick guides skip. This walkthrough follows the purchase screens in a sub-account, shows how price and paperwork change from one country to the next, and covers the two checks HighLevel adds for US numbers: a one-time identity verification before you can buy, and A2P 10DLC registration before you can rely on SMS.
Before you start
- Access to the sub-account (location) the number is for. HighLevel says to buy from inside that sub-account so the number lands on the right location.
- For a +1 number (US, Canada, Puerto Rico) on LC Phone: the sub-account owner, a government-issued photo ID and a device with a camera for a live selfie
- If your agency connects its own Twilio account instead of LC Phone, buy from that Twilio setup; the flow below is for LC Phone
01Look over the Business Profile
The recording starts at Settings → Business Profile: logo, friendly and legal business name, business email and phone, physical address and time zone. HighLevel's own purchase guide does not list a finished profile as a requirement for buying a number.
Still, fill it in accurately now. You will be asked for the legal business details again when you register the number for texting.
02Open Phone System in the sub-account
From inside the sub-account, click Settings at the bottom of the left sidebar, then Phone System. The page opens on the Phone numbers tab, next to Regulatory Bundles, Messaging, Voice, Trust Center and Additional Settings. On a fresh account the Manage Numbers table reads "No Data".
03Start a search and pick a country
Click + Add Number, then Add Phone Number from the drop-down. The Buy your Number window opens with a country selector and a results table.
Use Filters to narrow the list by digits or phrases in the number, by local or toll-free, and by voice, SMS or MMS capability. Each row shows the number type, whether an address is required, and the monthly price.
Countries differ a lot here. With Philippines selected, the recording returned local numbers in Davao and Quezon City at $15.00 a month, every one flagged Address Required. HighLevel notes that some countries need an address bundle or regulatory bundle with supporting documents before a number can be bought, which is what that flag points to.
04Choose a number and buy it
Switching to United States brought up local numbers in Alabama and Arkansas at $1.15 a month with no address requirement. The icons under Capabilities show which of voice, SMS and MMS a number supports.
Check them before you buy if texting matters. Tick the number you want (the counter at the bottom left confirms the selection) and click Proceed to Buy.
For a +1 number in an LC Phone sub-account that has never been verified, HighLevel now stops here for a Persona identity check: a government ID plus a live selfie, done by the sub-account owner. It happens once per sub-account, and the purchase cannot complete until it passes.
05Register for texting, then set up routing
The number now shows in Manage Numbers, with columns for friendly name, forwarding number and call timeout. Calls work straight away.
Texts to US recipients from a standard 10-digit local number do not reliably go through until you complete A2P 10DLC registration, found under Settings → Phone System → Trust Center. You register a brand (Standard if the business has an EIN or tax ID, Sole Proprietor if not) and then a campaign describing how you'll message people.
Toll-free numbers go through a separate Toll-Free Verification. While that's under review, set the forwarding number and call timeout so calls reach the right person. Missed-call text-backs and automated follow-ups can be layered on afterwards through workflows.
When it doesn't work
Proceed to Buy won't finish on a US or Canadian number
Why: The sub-account hasn't completed Persona identity verification, which HighLevel requires for +1 and +972 numbers on LC Phone.
Fix: Have the sub-account owner complete the ID and selfie check. If the Persona prompt doesn't appear, refresh and retry; HighLevel asks you to contact support if it still doesn't show or a session stays stuck for more than 24 hours.
Every number for a country says Address Required
Why: That country's rules require a verified address or regulatory bundle before a number can be issued.
Fix: Submit the address or bundle documents under the Regulatory Bundles tab, then return to the purchase.
Calls work but texts to US customers aren't delivered
Why: The local number hasn't been through A2P 10DLC brand and campaign registration, so carriers filter or block the traffic.
Fix: Complete registration under Trust Center. A status of Pending means it's still under review.
Frequently asked questions
Can one GoHighLevel number handle both calls and texts?
Not every number supports every channel, so check the Capabilities icons before buying. You can also filter the search to show only SMS- or MMS-capable numbers.
Why did HighLevel ask for my ID when I tried to buy a number?
HighLevel requires a one-time Persona verification (government ID and live selfie) for +1 and +972 numbers bought through LC Phone. Once a sub-account passes, later purchases in that sub-account skip it.
Do I need A2P registration if I only make calls?
A2P 10DLC covers business SMS and MMS to US recipients from standard local numbers. If the number never sends texts, it doesn't apply, though most HighLevel setups use texting sooner or later.
Can I get a toll-free number instead?
Yes. Switch the number type filter to toll-free in the same Buy your Number window. Texting from a toll-free number needs Toll-Free Verification instead of A2P 10DLC.
Sources and last check
Screens, prices and the country comparison come from the original screen recording. The click path, filters, Persona identity check and A2P 10DLC requirement were re-checked against HighLevel's official support articles in September 2026. That check added the ID verification step and the texting registration, and removed an earlier claim that US local numbers need an address on file (the recording shows they don't).
