How to Upload Images in Godaddy Website Builder, Add Photos Easily 2026

Everything starts at your GoDaddy account dashboard, reachable after signing in with your email and password, or with Apple, Facebook, or Google. From the dashboard you'll see shortcuts to your domains, renewals and billing, and the Website Builder product itself. If you haven't started a site yet, this is also where GoDaddy surfaces the Website Builder plan alongside domain offers, so it's a good moment to check what's already active on your account before opening the editor.

From the dashboard, launch Website Builder for the site you want to edit. You land in the editor with a live preview of your homepage on the left and a Website, Theme, Store, and Settings menu running along the top right.

The site navigation panel on the right lists your pages — Home and any others you've created — and a Shortcuts row below it gives one-click access to sections like Store, Appointments, and Marketing. This is your home base for every visual change, including adding photos.

There are two routes in. To replace a photo that's already on the page, click it and choose Change image in the right panel.

To add a new one, open the add-section panel and browse by category: Audio & Video, Blog & Newsletter, Commerce, Contact, Files & Web, General, and Image Gallery, which holds several layout styles including Logos & Badges. If you're adding more than a couple of photos, search for Photo Gallery specifically instead of a plain grid section — it holds up to 250 images in one section and comes with its own settings for autoplay, thumbnails, and navigation arrows that a basic image section doesn't have.

Once you're in the image placeholder or the gallery's image list, drag a file in from your computer, or choose one already sitting in your media library, GoDaddy's stock photo search, or a connected social account. GoDaddy's own help docs list the accepted formats as PNG, JPG/JPEG, and GIF, with one catch: animated GIFs are accepted but won't animate on the live page.

Each file is capped at 30 MB. Smaller files still load faster once the page is live, so there's little reason to upload near the ceiling.

The right panel gives you real editing controls, not just a crop box: shape icons to change the image's outline, a Rotate button for 90-degree turns, a zoom slider, click-and-drag repositioning, and a Black & White toggle. Select Edit to open the photo in GoDaddy's Content Creator for filters, shadow effects, and background removal, then Continue to bring it back into the builder. Before you're done, add a line to the Image Description field — that's the alt text screen readers rely on and search engines index, and GoDaddy's documentation treats it as a required step, not an extra.

Editing and uploading save automatically inside the builder, but none of it reaches your live site until you click Publish, next to Preview at the top of the screen. This is the step people skip, then wonder why the old photo is still showing.

Once published, every image stays in your site's media library so you can reuse it on another page instead of uploading the same file twice. Give files a searchable name before uploading; a cluttered library gets hard to scan as it grows.
