How to Set Up Zendesk Help Center Easily 2026
By Impran M N
Without an organized self-service portal, agents end up answering the same repetitive questions over and over. This guide walks through the full setup of a new Zendesk Help Center, from activating Guide to structuring categories and publishing your first live article.
01Activate the Guide setup
From the top product matrix icon, click Knowledge and select Get Started to enter the setup environment.
02Set your default language
Configure Guide Admin language parameters and lock in your default workspace locale before drafting content.
03Build your category structure
Go to Arrange Content and click Add to build your initial Categories and nested Sections.
04Apply branding
Open the Customize Design panel to upload your logo and adjust visual theme colors.
05Publish a baseline article
Draft and publish at least one support article inside your new section so the portal isn't empty.
06Go live
Open the left sidebar settings gear, scroll to Help Center, and click Activate Live to move from a restricted preview to a public portal.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to publish content before going live?
It's recommended to publish at least one baseline article so visitors don't land on an empty portal.
Can I change my default language later?
You can adjust locale settings later, but it's best to lock in your primary language before drafting a large volume of content.
How is a category different from a section?
Categories are broad top-level groupings, while sections are more focused sub-groups nested inside a category.
Can I preview the Help Center before making it public?
Yes, the portal stays in a restricted preview state until you explicitly activate it live.
