How to Integrate Notion With Slack, Connect & Use Easily 2026

By Impran M N

Bridging your Notion workspace with your Slack channels cuts down on the tab-switching that slows down project handoffs. There are actually two doors into this integration: you can install Slack connections from inside Notion's own settings, or add a Notion app from Slack's App Directory. This guide walks through both, plus what you actually get once they're connected — link previews with AI-generated summaries, and an AI connector that lets Notion answer questions using what's in your Slack history.

01Open Notion's settings and find Connections

Click your workspace name in Notion to open the Account & Settings modal, then look under the Features section in the left sidebar for Connections, sitting between Notion AI and Notion MCP. This is the central place Notion manages every third-party app it talks to, not just Slack, so it's worth knowing this menu exists even if Slack is the only one you need right now. From here you can see what's already connected and open the Discover page to browse everything available.

02Install Slack from Discover connections

Opening Discover connections shows a searchable gallery of apps, and Slack's card lists exactly what it offers: Link preview, which shows a rich card when you paste a Notion page into Slack, and AI connector, which lets Notion AI search and answer using content from your Slack workspace. Clicking into the Slack card starts an OAuth handshake — a small popup window opens to Slack, you sign in and approve the requested scopes, and the modal shows "Processing authentication" while it waits for you to finish in that popup. Once it completes, the connection count updates from "0 of 2 connection types installed" to reflect whichever pieces you turned on.

03Understand what Link preview actually does

Slack also publishes its own integration page describing the same connection from the other direction, under the heading "Connect Slack & Notion — Share Notion links with useful context and AI summaries." The example on that page shows a teammate dropping a Notion link into a channel message, and Slack automatically expanding it into a card with the document's title, a short AI-written summary of the key takeaways, and metadata showing who created it and when. That unfurling only works for pages your Slack workspace has been given access to, so a link to a private, unshared page will post as plain text instead of a rich card.

04Add the Notion AI app from Slack's directory instead

The second path starts from Slack. Inside Slack's AgentExchange app directory, searching for Notion surfaces a listing for Notion AI, separate from the basic link-preview connection — it's marked as a paid app under Pricing.

Its description explains that Notion AI works across your workspace's docs, projects, and meetings, and that in Slack specifically it can summarize threads, find next steps, and pull in relevant context using Slack's Real-time Search API. Clicking Add to Slack from this listing installs the AI-focused integration rather than the free link-preview one, so check which listing you're on before installing if you specifically want the no-cost option.

05Know the difference before you commit

It's easy to assume "connect Notion to Slack" is a single toggle, but what you're actually choosing between is a free, page-level link preview and a paid, workspace-wide AI connector. If your team just wants shared links to look good in chat, the free Link preview connection from Notion's Discover page is enough. If you want Notion AI to actually answer questions inside Slack using content from both platforms, you need the separate Notion AI app installed from Slack's directory, which carries its own subscription cost on top of your existing plans.

06Verify the connection in either direction

After installing from either side, test it by pasting a link to a Notion page you know is shared into a Slack channel — it should unfurl into the card style shown on Slack's integration page within a second or two. If you installed the AI connector, try asking Notion AI a question in Slack that references something discussed in a channel to confirm it's pulling in Slack content. Both connections can be managed or removed later from the same two places: Notion's Connections settings, or Slack's Apps section in your workspace sidebar.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is the Notion and Slack integration free?

The basic Link preview connection, managed from Notion's Discover connections page, is free. The separate Notion AI app listed in Slack's directory is a paid product on top of your existing Notion and Slack plans.

Do I need to give Slack access to my entire Notion workspace?

No. Notion's connection flow is scoped per app, and pages need to be explicitly shared before they'll unfurl as rich previews or be searchable through the AI connector.

Why isn't my Notion link showing a preview in Slack?

Check that the page is shared and that the Link preview connection is installed and authenticated in Notion's Connections settings — unshared pages post as plain text links instead of rich cards.

What's the difference between installing from Notion versus from Slack?

Installing from Notion's Discover connections page gets you the free Link preview and AI connector toggles for Slack. Installing Notion AI from Slack's own App Directory adds the paid AI product, which is a separate listing entirely.

Can Notion AI answer questions using my Slack messages?

Yes, if you install the AI connector — either through Notion's Discover connections modal or the paid Notion AI app in Slack's directory — it can search Slack using Slack's real-time search API to pull in relevant context.
