How to Retrieve Deleted or Voided Transactions in QuickBooks Online Easily 2026
By Impran M N
Accidentally deleting an invoice or voiding a check doesn't have to mean the record is gone for good. QuickBooks Online logs every change through its Audit Log, which you can use to trace exactly what was removed and rebuild it. This guide shows how to filter that log and reconstruct a missing transaction from its captured history.
01Open the Audit Log
Click the Gear icon, go to Tools, and select Audit Log to open the centralized change history workspace.
02Filter the activity by date and event
Use the filter panel to set a date range, choose specific users, and check the Transactions box under events to narrow the results.
03Find deleted or voided rows
Scan the Action column for entries explicitly marked as Deleted or Voided to locate the transaction you're trying to recover.
04View the historical payload
Click View on the flagged row, then expand the history to see the exact original amount, category, and vendor or customer details.
05Rebuild the entry manually
Keep the audit details open in one tab, open a new transaction form, and re-enter the saved values to restore the record.
Frequently asked questions
Can I restore a deleted transaction with one click?
No, QuickBooks Online doesn't support a one-click undo for deleted transactions, so you need to manually rebuild it using the audit log details.
Who can access the Audit Log?
Access is typically limited to admin users, so you may need elevated permissions to view it.
How far back does the Audit Log go?
The log generally tracks the full history of your company file, though very old entries may take longer to filter through.
Will rebuilding the transaction affect my reconciliation?
It can if the original entry was already reconciled, so double-check your bank register after rebuilding to confirm balances still line up.
