By Impran M N
When a client pays in installments instead of one lump sum, keeping the invoice balance accurate takes a bit of extra care. This guide shows how to apply multiple partial payments to a single invoice in QuickBooks Online and match them to your bank feed.
01Open Receive Payment for the first installment
Click + New, choose Receive Payment, and select the customer to see their open invoices.
02Apply the first partial amount
Enter the value of the first installment in Amount Received and check the box next to the target invoice.
03Save and repeat for the next payment
Save the entry, then repeat the process for the second installment, applying it to the same invoice's remaining balance.
04Confirm the invoice is fully covered
Review the updated balance to make sure the combined payments equal the original amount due.
05Match to your bank feed
Go to Bank Transactions and click Match on each downloaded bank line to lock the statement rows against your recorded payments.
