By Impran M N

When live bank feeds miss historical data or drop sync, manually retyping every transaction wastes hours. This guide shows how to upload a downloaded bank statement file into QuickBooks Online and map it into your books correctly.

01Download your statement

Log into your bank's portal and download your transaction history as a CSV, QBO, QFX, or OFX file.

02Open the upload tool

In QuickBooks Online, go to Transactions, then Bank Transactions, click the arrow next to Link account, and choose Upload from file.

03Upload your file

Click Browse file on the drag-and-drop panel and select your downloaded statement.

04Map the account and columns

Select the matching QuickBooks account, then configure column headers to align date, description, and amount fields correctly.

05Import and review

Confirm the parsed rows, click Continue and Done, then check your For Review dashboard for the newly uploaded transactions.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What file formats can I upload?

QuickBooks Online accepts standard files like QBO, QFX, OFX, and CSV depending on what your bank offers.

Why do I need to map columns manually for a CSV?

CSV files don't have a standard structure, so QuickBooks needs you to align date, description, and amount columns correctly during import.

Can I split spent and received amounts into separate columns?

Yes, the column mapping step lets you configure single or multi-column layouts to align disbursed and received values.

Where do imported transactions go after upload?

They land in the For Review queue on your Bank Transactions dashboard, ready to be categorized.
