By Impran M N

Connecting a live bank feed saves you from manually uploading statements every month and keeps your transactions flowing in automatically. This guide covers searching for your institution, securely logging in, and mapping the connected account to the right row in your Chart of Accounts. It's for anyone setting up QuickBooks Online banking for the first time.

01Open Bank Transactions

Go to Transactions, then Bank Transactions, to reach the banking dashboard.

02Start linking an account

Click Link Account in the upper right corner to open the bank search panel.

03Search for your institution

Type your bank or credit card issuer's name into the search bar and select it from the verified list.

04Log in securely and select accounts

Enter your bank's login credentials and any multi-factor codes, then check the boxes for the specific accounts you want to connect.

05Map accounts and choose history range

Assign each connected account to the correct row in your Chart of Accounts, select how far back to pull transactions, then click Connect.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is it safe to enter my bank login through QuickBooks?

QuickBooks uses an encrypted Open Banking API handshake for this process, which is the standard secure method most accounting software uses.

How far back can I pull transaction history?

You can choose a time period during setup, though the exact range available depends on your bank's own data retention.

What happens if I connect the same account twice?

This can create duplicate transactions, so check your existing connected accounts before adding a new one.

Can I disconnect the feed later without losing history?

Yes, disconnecting the live feed only stops future syncing and doesn't delete previously imported transactions.
