How to Set Up Alerts and Notifications in Power BI Easily 2026

By Impran M N

Manually checking your dashboard for revenue drops or KPI breaches doesn't scale once your business grows. This guide shows how to pin a card or KPI visual to a Power BI Service dashboard, configure a threshold-based alert rule, and control how often you get notified. It also covers linking alerts to Power Automate for automated Teams or email workflows.

01Pin your visual to a dashboard

Open your report in Power BI Service, hover over the target card or KPI visual, and click the Pin visual icon to add it to a dashboard.

02Open the alert manager

On your dashboard, hover over the pinned card, click the three-dot menu, and select Manage alerts.

03Create a new alert rule

Click Add alert rule, toggle it active, and give it a clear descriptive name.

04Set your threshold condition

Choose Above or Below in the Condition dropdown and enter your target numeric threshold value.

05Choose notification frequency and save

Set your preferred frequency, such as hourly or daily, check the email notification box if desired, and save the rule to activate monitoring.
